Inspiring family stories: Emiko Davies and the Florentine dream life

The days have been quite full around here lately and I’ve been waiting impatiently for a calm Sunday moment to share a few lines about the inspiring life and work of an amazing woman: Emiko Davies . Living with her family, Italian husband and the sweetest little girl, in the charming hills of Florence, Emiko shares her stories about the Italian lifestyle and cuisine on her website. Also author of two cookbooks, she documents the traditional italian cuisine, preparing gorgeous recipes and also hosting workshops around the country.

So this weekend we'll be dreaming an Italian dream...a small charming town in Tuscany, where the streets turn into a social event in the evening, where the busy and loud local markets are full of fresh produces, where everybody drives a scooter, where you’re minutes away from the hills covered in vineyards, where you add basil to all your dishes. Since my Aquacotta book arrived, nicely packed and delivered by Anthropologie UK, I’ve been thinking about one thing only…let’s sell everything and move to Italy! Tuscany always seemed like a dreamy place to live but after I discovered the books and website of Emiko Davies, her stories from Florence, her recipes from the traditional Italian cuisine, the family escapes to the beachside and morning errands to local markets, I dived myself into her texts and became more convinced that one day we will live this provincial life that I’m dreaming of. The Florentine lifestyle that Emiko describes is just as I imagined it : the crowded bars in the morning where everybody stands and sips from an espresso before heading to work, the window shops full of pastries and the busy trattorias at lunch time, with their gingham printed table clothes and their simple yet delicious dishes, the old family run business that have an incredible charm and are the proof that history is a part of people’s lives. And just like that as I go through the pages of Aquacotta with my morning coffee, I imagine myself cooking with asparagus and ricotta all my life and having focaccia for breakfast every day.

Enjoy these few photos, all from Emiko's website, and make sure to read her full stories on the emikodavies.com .
