Weekend rituals and some good reads

Sunday morning, 08:30am. We leave the bedroom quietly and let Radu sleep a little longer. The gentle sound of the espresso machine announces the start of a new day. A slow one.

We put on some cosy sweaters and have the first sip of coffee on the terrace. We enjoy the stillness of the our street, before it becomes loud and busy again. We open the kitchen window to let the sun and fresh air come in. We pick up some magazines or turn on the radio. This is our moment, as parents, of enjoying our little pleasures. That time before breakfast when we allow ourselves the pleasure of digging into that precious collection of magazines that its nicely ordered in the living room. We don't buy every issue of Kinfolk that comes out, because let's face it, all these independent magazines are quite pricey. Instead we read some of the articles online, subscribe to those publications that have quarterly issues or purchase old prints at sales. It's like a small gift for yourself. These prints remain our guilty pleasure. As much as we appreciate an uncluttered home, those collections of magazines really get us. Especially since we don't have that much time to read books and an article is the perfect time measure for a cup of coffee before Radu wakes up. Its that source of something new everyday, that keeps us inspired and connected.

On weekends we live the Spanish way of life. Although we get up early, the day really begins around 10 o'clock. We start the morning slowly and that really sets the pace for the rest of the day. We stay in our pijamas until we go for a ride to the farmer's market. We make omelette au fromage or avocado toast for breakfast and grab a few madeleines from the bakery on our way to the park. We make a stop at the skate park and continue our ride to the lake, just to realize that we will not make it home on time to prepare lunch. So when most of the families are having their siesta, you'll find us rushing around the kitchen. I quickly put my hair in a topknot and I improvise a lunch with some grilled sea-bass and vegetables, while the boys set the table. Because this is how weekends should be. No plans. Just the three of us enjoying all these simple TOGETHER.
