Simplicity. Items for a wabi-sabi home

Our homes are often filled with so many things that we start feeling overwhelmed by our belongings, rather than feeling relaxed and inspired in our own place. The tendency of collecting things, from our holidays or from the flea market, is almost addictive but we should let go any nostalgic feeling that holds us from decluttering our homes. We should donate the things that we don’t use and stop buying new ones that we actually don’t need.

So instead of filling our spaces with all sorts of possessions, why not choose some timeless pieces that don’t go out of style (if that matters for you), that are long lasting and also have a story to tell. Let our homes provide the calm that we need, be cosy and inviting, subtle and with few visual distractions. Turning our home into a more wabi-sabi inspired home is a long process, as we cannot clear and completely change a space overnight. But we can start by being more careful when it comes to the materials that we choose. Wood, linen, unrefined fabrics, leathers and man-made ceramics and baskets. They can be more expensive but they will surely last longer, they might be imperfect but they certainly tell a story and will get better over time. These items reveal a human touch, they are made to be useful but also to bring joy and beauty to everyday moments.

I really believe in the power that these simple things have. How they make us appreciate the beauty of handmade objects and make simple moments feel special. Like drinking your coffee from a handmade ceramic cup or lighting a small beeswax candle on a cloudy day. All these things bring a little poetry to the everyday. Some favorite items featured in the collage above are : rustic leather slippers from House of Paloma , a comfortable linen robe (my favorite thing to wear around the house), ceramic plates from Hüseyin Artik , hand woven baskets from Atelier Studios and a beautiful chair by Marcello Ziliani discovered through Fos Studio.
